India is mobilizing approximately $25 billion in combined public and private investment to boost its deep tech startup ecosystem, aiming to close the gap with the US and China. The flagship Research, Development, and Innovation scheme represents a ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $11 to $12 billion) allocation for long-gestation technologies. The India Deep Tech Alliance has committed over $2.5 billion, with $1 billion specifically earmarked for artificial intelligence development. In 2025, Indian deep tech startups raised $2.96 billion across 189 deals, with AI, semiconductors, and space technology attracting the bulk of venture capital. Under the expanded Startup India framework, the recognition period for deep tech startups has been extended to 20 years, acknowledging their lengthy R&D cycles.
