Bitget hackers swap Ethereum for Bitcoin via THORChain — What’s happening?

The Bitget hack on September 24 resulted in $351.6 million being drained, with attackers now swapping Ethereum for Bitcoin through THORChain and using chain-hopping techniques alongside mixing services like Wasabi to obscure the origin of funds. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported that Chinese-speaking illicit actors are assisting with fund transfers, while Bitget CEO Gracy Chen suggested a North Korean group was likely responsible. Bitget has contained the breach, resumed BTC withdrawals, and enlisted Mandiant and SlowMist for the investigation, with user funds protected by a $464 million User Protection Fund.
