India has lifted the ban on wheat and wheat flour exports, effective August 24 through Notification No. 35/2026-27. This measure ends four years of trade restrictions established in May 2022 during the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As the world’s second-largest wheat producer, India projects a harvest of approximately 110 million metric tonnes for 2025-26, following a record harvest of 115.3 million metric tonnes in 2024-25. This decision aims to support Indian farmers through better price realization while contributing to global grain supply stability.
