The IMF highlighted the utility of tokenized stocks for round-the-clock market access, noting that more than half of tokenized equity trading occurs outside regular market hours. Current tokenized markets, including credit, commodities, and stocks, represent $60 billion, compared to $300 trillion for the traditional global market. The institution warned about fragmentation in issuance and liquidity, with products siloed across crypto platforms that do not communicate with each other. The IMF called for clear policy frameworks and interoperability between platforms to enable the sector to scale fully.
