Illinois will postpone the implementation of its cryptocurrency tax following a lawsuit filed by the Digital Chamber. The 0.2% digital asset tax, included in the state’s budget for fiscal year 2027 and signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker in June, was originally set to take effect on January 1. The Digital Chamber calls this delay a “major win” for the crypto industry but says it will continue its legal battle to permanently overturn the tax. Two other organizations, the Crypto Council for Innovation and the Blockchain Association, had also challenged the tax on constitutional grounds in August.
