Humain, Saudi Arabia’s state-backed AI company, released the HUMAIN M3 model on September 2, 2026, positioning it as the backbone of a national AI platform. Contrary to initial expectations, the model was not developed entirely in-house: it builds on the open weights of MiniMax’s M3 model, a Chinese artificial intelligence company. Humain fine-tuned this base model on over 1 trillion Arabic tokens, achieving an average performance of approximately 89.37% across seven Arabic benchmark tests. This pragmatic approach, prioritizing speed over building from scratch, marks a strategic shift in the kingdom’s sovereign AI strategy, aligned with the Vision 2030 framework aimed at diversifying Saudi Arabia’s economy beyond oil. The model will be released as open source and deployed across Saudi sovereign infrastructure.
