Harwood, ND voters reject data center restrictions, support Applied Digital project

About 75% of voters in Harwood, North Dakota, rejected an amendment that would have required additional reviews and public hearings for large industrial projects, including data centers. The vote supports the ongoing development of an Applied Digital data center on a 160-acre site, with Oracle planned as the end user. Harwood is the only community among more than 40 nationwide ballot measures to oppose restrictions on data centers. Local economic and tax benefits were therefore favored over increased regulatory oversight. The result could reduce the perceived likelihood of a statewide data center moratorium in Oklahoma, where market participants are watching actions by Governor Kevin Stitt and the state legislature.
