🎇 Happy Swiss National Day — 735 Years of History 🎇

On the shores of Lake Lucerne, one morning in August 1291, a handful of men sealed a pact beneath the sky of the Rütli meadow. Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden — three simple names, one immense promise: to remain free, together, against all the powers of the world.

Seven centuries have passed since then. Glaciers have carved our valleys, church bells have marked the rhythm of our villages, and the red and white of our flag has flown over mountain peaks as over city rooftops. Twenty-six cantons, four languages, one heart beating as one every first of August.

Tonight, as fireworks light up the sky above our lakes and Alps, as paper lanterns sway from windows and bells ring out across the valleys, let us remember: we are the heirs of a shepherds’ pact that became a nation — a country that chose, against wind and tide, the path of neutrality, direct democracy, and mutual respect between its peoples.

735 years after the Rütli, the flame still burns.

🔴⚪ Long live Switzerland, and Happy Swiss National Day to all!
