The Greek Parliament has approved a crypto asset tax framework that will tax individuals’ net cryptocurrency gains at 10% from January 1, 2027. Annual gains of up to €500 will be exempt, while the entire amount will be taxable once the threshold is exceeded. Merely holding cryptocurrency will not create an immediate tax liability, but sales for euros or purchases of goods and services may be taxed. Income from staking, crypto lending, and decentralized finance will instead be taxed at 15%. Investors will also have 12 months to voluntarily declare previously unreported gains without late-filing penalties and may carry qualifying annual losses above €500 forward for five years.
