Google’s RRSI framework lets AI agents rebuild their own harnesses

Google Cloud AI Research has released RRSI, an open-source framework enabling AI agents to continuously improve the harness around their language model while keeping the model itself fixed. Developed in collaboration with UNC-Chapel Hill, Stanford, and Washington University in St. Louis, the tool uses temporally annealed edit budgets and four selection filters to prevent overfitting. Results show an approximately 30% reduction in policy tokens and performance improvements reaching +14.1 points across eight benchmarks evaluated. The framework also demonstrated its ability to transfer improvements to other model variants, including smaller versions of Gemini.
