Media speculation about John Waldron potentially succeeding David Solomon as CEO of Goldman Sachs is misleading gossip. Solomon remains firmly in charge eight years into his tenure, having significantly outperformed every major competitor, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and Citigroup, since 2018. The stock has roughly quadrupled and Goldman has retired over 21% of its total share count. The author argues that boards are supposed to continuously evaluate succession plans, which is not news, and that the media should instead focus on Solomon’s successful transformation of Goldman Sachs into a genuine growth company.
