Google launches AI-powered tools in Cloud Modernize portfolio

Google Cloud launched on October 5, 2026 a new Modernize portfolio bundling AI-powered migration tools to move mainframes, VMware setups, and legacy systems from rival clouds into cloud-native environments. The offering includes Migration Center with a Gemini-powered Agentic Quick Estimator for infrastructure assessment, Modernization Hub for source code analysis and dependency mapping, and an EKS-to-GKE Agentic Migration tool currently in public preview. Google also unveiled new virtual machines, including the X5 Series with up to 43 TiB of memory for memory-intensive workloads like SAP S/4HANA, alongside M4N Series and Z4D/Z4M instances. Early adopters reported substantial gains: NetEase Games reduced infrastructure scaling from hours to five minutes while achieving roughly 40% cost savings, Deutsche Borse achieved over 50% latency reduction with development cycles compressed from months to days, and Intesa Sanpaolo gained more confidence in regulatory and mainframe migrations using Dual Run.
