Google is investing $17 billion in Project Tembo, a 716-acre data center campus in southern Laramie County in southeastern Wyoming, near Cheyenne. The project will include four buildings totaling approximately 3.08 million square feet, along with office, logistics, and network facilities. Its power capacity is designed to reach 2.7 GW, while Black Hills Corp. will invest $1.8 billion in new generation capacity. A private microgrid will operate through 2048. Site preparation could begin in late 2026, initial operations are targeted for the second half of 2028, and full completion is expected in the first half of 2031. Google took over the project, previously known as Project Jade and developed by Crusoe and Tallgrass, with peak construction employment expected to reach about 2,500 workers.
