Google and Constellation reportedly near billion-dollar nuclear power deal

Google and Constellation Energy are reportedly negotiating a billion-dollar agreement for nuclear electricity supply. Constellation is the largest nuclear power operator in the United States. Amazon has already signed a twenty-year deal with Constellation for 690 MW from the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant in Maryland, an agreement expected to unlock over three billion dollars in state infrastructure investment. Major tech companies including Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft have collectively contracted roughly 8.5 gigawatts from existing US nuclear reactors, with artificial intelligence being the primary driver of this demand. The challenge for Google lies in securing sufficient and reliable capacity, as its current partners only provide smaller increments of power.
