Gina Raimondo warns against isolationist AI strategies

Gina Raimondo, former US Commerce Secretary, warned on October 13, 2026 at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi that no single country or company can manage the economic and security risks of artificial intelligence alone, arguing that national isolationism is not a workable strategy. She cited the deepening US-India partnership on semiconductors and AI as a powerful model for cooperative governance. Her foundation RAISE US, where she now serves as Chair and CEO, has raised 500 million dollars from Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon, and Microsoft for workforce retraining programs. Raimondo advocates a two-track approach toward China: competing on AI while cooperating on shared risks such as model vulnerabilities and autonomous systems governance. She served as Commerce Secretary from 2021 to 2025, during which the US AI Safety Institute was established and the CHIPS Act was implemented with export controls on advanced chips.
