From 0.5% to 23%: Wall Street’s crypto perps takeover explained

Stock and commodity-linked perpetual futures went from 0.5% to 23% of total perpetual futures volume across major crypto platforms. In August, these contracts generated $778 billion in trading volume, with $665.42 billion on centralized exchanges, up from just $11.58 billion in January. Binance accounts for approximately $433.4 billion of this volume, followed by Bybit and Hyperliquid. This growth is driven by the 24/7 access crypto platforms offer, enabling trading of stocks, ETFs, and commodities outside traditional market hours. If this trend continues, platforms like Binance, Bybit, and Hyperliquid could increasingly compete with traditional brokers.
