France is world’s most dangerous place for Bitcoiners: 90 attacks in 7 months

According to a Chainalysis study, France has become the most dangerous place in the world for cryptocurrency holders, with 90 violent attacks recorded in seven months. Among victims with known residency, 93 % were French. This surge is primarily attributed to a massive data breach involving the French tax authority in 2024, as well as a breach at tax specialist Waltio affecting approximately 50,000 users in January 2026. In total, over 40 % of attacks targeted relatives and acquaintances rather than the holders themselves, suggesting criminals conduct prior surveillance. In response, French authorities are coordinating their investigations through JUNALCO, the specialized organized crime jurisdiction.
