Sony announced it will stop producing physical discs for new video games starting in 2028. Shawn Layden, former President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, criticized the decision, calling it a heavily spreadsheeted move and stating the brand suffered a significant hit. Around 385,000 people have signed a Don’t Kill the Disc petition against the measure. Layden also noted that only about 20% of gamers still purchase physical discs, but emphasized these players represent the most loyal community segment.
