Refrigerators in supermarkets across Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Ireland, Estonia, and the Netherlands were hacked and programmed to defrost, reaching temperatures of up to 70°C. The attacks spoiled refrigerated food and are expected to cause millions of euros in damage. Hundreds of French supermarket refrigerators were also hacked the previous month, with nationwide losses estimated at tens of millions of euros for a single day. The US Department of Defense is now coordinating with French authorities after another attack disrupted freezers at at least six US military bases.
