The Ethereum Foundation postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi test network, initially scheduled for October 26, after risks affecting existing smart contracts were identified. ChainSecurity found 13 real-world examples of applications affected by the proposed EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 changes, which alter gas accounting to increase transaction capacity. The changes could disrupt failure-handling mechanisms used notably by decentralized finance applications by allowing previously reverted transactions to record a permanent failure and preventing users from retrying valid operations. This setback threatens Glamsterdam’s December 2026 activation target and complicates preparations for the next major upgrade, Hegotá.
