Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, hopes to complete Ethereum’s post-quantum and post-AI transition by December 2028. Speaking at Devcon 8 in Mumbai, he said developers have 24 months to deliver three additional network upgrades. The foundation’s September roadmap had set December 2029 as the deadline for quantum resistance across Ethereum’s execution, consensus and data layers. Drake’s remarks do not formally change that roadmap, which is scheduled for reassessment in January 2027, but indicate a more ambitious timeline. The acceleration comes as other developers, including those from Starknet, question the feasibility of Ethereum’s 2029 target.
