The Esports Foundation announced on August 18 that the inaugural Esports Nations Cup, originally scheduled for November 2026 in Riyadh, has been postponed by one year to November 2027. The 20 million dollar prize pool and nearly completed qualifiers for 16 titles were not enough to keep the event amid the ongoing Iran conflict. Teams from North America, Europe, the MENA region, and Asia had already secured their spots through regional events and ranking systems. The 2026 Esports World Cup, featuring a 75 million dollar prize pool, has already been relocated from Riyadh to Paris for the same security concerns. The Esports Foundation has not clarified whether existing qualification results will carry over or if fresh qualifiers will be required.
