EEZ (Ethereum Economic Zone) has successfully tested an atomic transaction between Ethereum mainnet and a layer-2 network, marking what contributors call the “first atomic cross-chain” L1-to-L2 transaction. The transaction transferred 0.001 ETH while updating a rollup state, demonstrating an execution model where operations across chains either succeed or revert together. This framework aims to enable rollups and Ethereum mainnet to interact within a single transaction without relying on bridges, addressing liquidity fragmentation across separate L2 networks. Jakub Gregus, co-founder of decentralized finance protocol Hydration, described the demonstration as “one of the most important milestones” in crypto.
