Cut spending to curb runaway borrowing costs, Goldman’s Gutman tells governments

Anthony Gutman, co-CEO of Goldman Sachs International, said Monday that governments need a more stable policy backdrop combining lower public spending and stronger economic growth to curb surging borrowing costs. He highlighted that rising government bond yields pose a challenge across the Western world, citing recent turmoil in U.S. Treasuries and French government bonds. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield stood at 5.2581% on Monday, while France’s 10-year government bond yield reached 4.8812%. Gutman also warned about growing policy uncertainty in Europe, particularly related to electoral cycles.
