Illinois has agreed to postpone by six months the implementation of its 0.2% tax on digital transactions, moving the effective date from January 1 to July 1, 2027, following a joint motion filed by the Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association. This measure, which targets businesses generating over $100,000 in revenue, still requires approval from the Sangamon County judge. The tax remains contested in court over potential unconstitutionality and compliance with the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act. The state projects $60 million in revenue from this tax in 2027.
