Two suspects, a 24-year-old man from Geleen and a 45-year-old from Leiden, were arrested in the Netherlands after defrauding Rolex watch sellers by paying them with fake EURC, tokens mimicking Circle’s euro-denominated stablecoin. On Marktplaats, the buyers sent tokens convincing enough to appear as a valid payment at first glance, with the fraud only discovered when sellers attempted to convert the assets into euros. Police seized firearms and narcotics during the search of the Geleen suspect’s home, who was detained for 14 days, while the Leiden man was released but remains a suspect. The case came to light after Dutch TV show Plaats Delict broadcast a wanted notice, leading a viewer to identify one of the suspects.
