Crypto aggression: A French influencer tied up in Quebec

Share

French crypto influencer Mixaël Monteverde testified on October 5, 2025, before a Quebec court about the violent attack he suffered in December 2021 at a luxury chalet in the Laurentides region. Several armed individuals broke in, shot him in the head, tied him up, and attempted to drown him to obtain access to his cryptocurrencies. The attackers stole $25,000 in cryptocurrency and a Rolex watch, but most of his digital assets were protected by a compartmentalized storage system. The man accused of orchestrating the theft, Michael-Elie Moussalem, a Montrealer whom he considered a friend, left Canada for the United States in October 2022 and allegedly has been hiding in Lebanon since August 2024. The trial is proceeding in his absence and he remains presumed innocent.
