Cowboy Space Corporation unveils Big Iron, a rocket that becomes an orbital data center

Cowboy Space Corporation, formerly known as Aetherflux and founded by Baiju Bhatt, unveiled Big Iron, a rocket whose upper stage is intended to remain in orbit and operate as a data center with roughly 1 MW of computing capacity. The rocket can lift more than 15,000 kilograms into sun-synchronous orbit and house five NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPU racks in a structure that unfolds to approximately 132 meters by 73 meters. Big Iron is the delivery vehicle for the planned Stampede constellation, which could contain up to 20,000 satellites. While terrestrial data centers face constraints related to grid capacity, cooling water and permits, the orbital design uses solar power directly. Cowboy Space targets a first launch no earlier than December 2028, following the launch of the Reason-1 satellite on October 1, 2026, and raised $275 million in a Series B round in May 2026 at a $2 billion valuation.
