Michael Intrator, CEO of CoreWeave, stated at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Tech Conference on September 9 that public opposition to AI data centers represents a natural human response to the dizzying pace of technological change. According to a Brookings Institution analysis, 75 data center projects worth approximately $130 billion were delayed or blocked by local resistance in the first quarter of 2026 alone, matching the total for all of 2025. A Gallup survey shows that 70% of Americans oppose AI data centers being built in their local area, with 48% expressing strong opposition. To counter this resistance, CoreWeave has diversified its development pipeline with over one gigawatt of planned international capacity, allowing the company to circumvent local opposition without slowing its growth trajectory.
