Consensys spins off MetaMask as standalone consumer entity

Consensys Software Inc. announced the spinoff of MetaMask, its highly popular self-custodial wallet, into a fully independent company. MetaMask serves approximately 100 million monthly active users and generates revenue through swaps, staking, and other Ethereum ecosystem activities. The parent company Consensys, which raised $450 million in its Series D round in 2022 at a $7 billion valuation, will retain the Consensys name and focus on protocols, developer tools, and institutional blockchain services. No IPO or token launch plans were announced for either entity. MetaMask’s co-founder Dan Finlay departed the company in April 2026, raising questions about the strategic succession of the new standalone entity.
