Coinbase has launched a tokenized stock market on its Base network, allowing users to trade Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet around the clock, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. These tokens, named NVDAc, AAPLc, METAc and GOOGLc, rely on the B20 standard and are backed 1:1 by real shares held by regulated custodian Alpaca under the Abu Dhabi Global Market framework. They already integrate with decentralized finance and can be used as collateral for borrowing on Aave. The global tokenized stock market could reach over 1.3 trillion dollars according to some estimates. The main uncertainty remains the behavior of these lending protocols in the event of a stock market crash, a scenario that DeFi has never had to absorb at this scale.
