Coinbase demonstrated on August 18, 2026 an internal Slack bot that allows AI agents to autonomously purchase services using USDC micropayments. The bot, built on the x402 protocol, searches a marketplace called the x402 Bazaar listing over 10,000 payable services, selects the appropriate one, and completes the transaction in roughly 200 milliseconds on Base. Transaction costs run at fractions of a cent, with no subscriptions, manual approvals, or invoice processing. The system operates within predefined spend limits and uses AWS Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments. Coinbase’s broader vision, called Agentic Payments, aims to enable AI agents to transact economically without human involvement.
