CLARITY Act faces September deadline after Senate delay

The US Senate has delayed the floor vote on the CLARITY Act from August to September, Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced on Thursday. Democrats, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, oppose the current draft, arguing it was written by the crypto industry to advance its own interests. The bill’s chance of passage in 2026 has dropped to a record low of 14 percent. Key sticking points include stablecoin yield, illicit finance, developer protections, and ethics provisions. The Senate will resume session on September 14th.
