CIA: 298 Gold Bars Seized from Ex-Executive, $194M Embezzled

David J. Rush, 49, a former senior CIA executive, pleaded guilty on October 6, 2026, before a federal court in Virginia to a fraud scheme that cost US taxpayers nearly $194 million. He created a fictitious classified secret program to embezzle these public funds. During a search of his Virginia home, the FBI seized 298 gold bars worth $46 million, approximately $2.1 million in cash, and a collection of luxury watches. Nearly $145 million was used to purchase luxury real estate properties in Virginia and Florida, watches, and vehicles. He faces up to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on January 28, 2027.
