Chinese shares hit one-year low as technology stocks slide

Chinese equities fell to their lowest level in a year on September 27, with the CSI 300 declining 2 percent. Semiconductor and technology stocks bore the brunt of the selloff, with Cambricon down 5.7 percent and SMIC dropping 3.6 percent, as reports emerged that the US may ease restrictions on Nvidia’s advanced H200 chips. The prospect of more accessible American chips weakened the investment case for domestic Chinese alternatives, which are considered less capable and more expensive. Optical module manufacturers such as Zhongji Innolight and Eoptolink also fell roughly 10 percent in August, contributing to a 9 percent decline in the CSI 300 telecom services index during the same period.
