China slows humanoid robot IPOs as scrutiny increases on valuations

China is tightening listing criteria for humanoid robotics IPOs after Unitree Robotics’ volatile debut exposed the gap between market enthusiasm and actual revenues. The company raised 6.1 billion yuan at a $9 billion valuation on August 19, 2026, before its stock quintupled on the first day then crashed 45%, taking its market cap from $66 billion down to $30 billion. The China Securities Regulatory Commission hardened its rules on September 9, 2026, now requiring firms to demonstrate recurring revenue, a credible path to profitability, and genuine technological differentiation. Deep Robotics and Leju Robotics, both with pending applications, are currently unprofitable and could see their listing plans delayed. The sector comprises between 100 and 150 companies competing for a limited pool of pilot projects and government contracts.
