The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is examining Polymarket’s internal controls and how the platform marketed itself to users in the United States. According to The Wall Street Journal, Polymarket paid social media influencers approximately $1.9 million to produce videos featuring bets, with about 70% showing staged wagers rather than actual trades. The advertising probe was reportedly initiated in June 2026, alongside at least three authorized investigations into potential insider trading linked to contracts on Joe Biden’s pardons and Google’s 2025 search statistics. Multiple individuals, including a Google employee, have been charged, but no formal charges had been brought against Polymarket itself as of late October 2026. The platform has launched internal audits, increased compliance through a dedicated 16-person investigations team, and dismissed chief marketing officer Matthew Modabber in October 2026.
