Calle, the developer of the Cashu ecash protocol, announced on October 22, 2026 the launch of BitNotes, a free, open-source application available for Android and macOS. BitNotes converts Bitcoin-backed tokens into paper notes that can be verified offline using the issuer’s public keys and cryptographic signatures. The application also enables swaps between several Cashu mints and supports Lightning, as well as Ark for depositing Bitcoin on the blockchain. The project also offers a Mobile Money bridge, notably for Rwandan francs, but it has neither published external security audits nor provided concrete adoption figures.
