Brookfield, Drax Group and cloud platform Radiant have signed an agreement to jointly develop an artificial intelligence data center at the Drax Power Station site in North Yorkshire. The project initially targets capacity of up to 100 megawatts from the first quarter of 2028, with an additional 500 megawatts brought online between 2028 and 2031. The site could then secure more than 1 gigawatt of capacity by an unspecified date. Brookfield estimates that total investment, including semiconductors, could exceed £20 billion, or $26.8 billion, with an initial £2.5 billion investment for phase one. Drax shares rose 8.2% in early trading on Tuesday.
