Brazil has emerged as the Latin American country with the highest public debt relative to GDP in 2026, reaching 97.3%. This figure surpasses El Salvador (85.8%) and Trinidad and Tobago (83.7%). The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects Brazil’s government debt will approach 98% of GDP. The situation reflects ongoing economic challenges despite previous efforts to stabilize the national economy.
