BNB Smart Chain validators began rolling out a major network capacity upgrade on September 14, with completion expected by September 15. The upgrade raises the block gas limit target to 70 million, up from the current 55 million, to address network utilization exceeding 95%. This follows the Pasteur hard fork (August 25, 2026) which introduced the BidBlock V2 architecture, delivering a 28% average increase in gas per block. BidBlock V2 now manages approximately 98% of recent blocks on the network. BSC developers plan to scale further to 80 million and potentially 90 million gas per block, though larger blocks pose centralization risks as validators with limited resources may struggle with increased processing demands.
