Researcher Stacy Muur published a personal compilation on October 20 of 82 crypto projects and protocols that shut down in 2026, covering decentralized finance, infrastructure, gaming and digital wallets. Blast had attracted more than $2 billion in deposits on Ethereum before announcing in early October that it no longer saw a credible path to economic viability, while Step Finance ceased operations after its treasury wallets were hacked in late January. Radiant Capital gradually halted its activities in June without having recovered from the 2024 attack, and Satori Finance cited insufficient revenue. The figure of 82 is neither official nor exhaustive: a DeFiLlama search relayed by CCN counted 100 shutdowns in August using different criteria, while Polygon zkEVM shut down its main sequencer in early July but maintained a claim interface, without this meaning the disappearance of Polygon as a whole.
