South Korean exchange Bithumb won a case at the Seoul Central District Court, which ordered a customer to return approximately 194 million won ($140,400) from the sale of Bitcoin mistakenly credited to their account. The February 6 error occurred when a staff member entered Bitcoin instead of Korean won during a promotion, inadvertently crediting roughly 620,000 BTC across hundreds of accounts, an amount far exceeding the platform’s actual reserves of about 40,000 BTC. Trading was halted after approximately 40 minutes, with roughly 1,788 BTC reaching the order book. Bithumb recovered 99.7% of the Bitcoin involved in the error and offered 110% compensation to some affected traders.
