Bitget announced that its institutional clients can now hold their trading collateral through Sygnum Protect, the Swiss bank’s off-exchange custody platform. Assets are placed in segregated, bankruptcy-remote accounts governed by Swiss law, structurally insulating them from the exchange’s balance sheet. This move addresses concerns raised by the FTX collapse in 2022, where customer assets held on the exchange’s balance sheet became creditor claims. Sygnum Protect accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and yield-bearing US Treasuries as collateral. By end of 2025, Sygnum Protect’s assets under custody grew more than 900%, crossing $1 billion, making it the largest bank-operated off-exchange custody platform in the market.
