The cost of the first quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction has dropped by approximately 79%, falling from about $320 to roughly $67 in compute costs, according to benchmark tests by StarkWare. This solution, called QSB, was deployed on Aug. 26 with help from MARA and required approximately 3,100 GPU-hours across about 100 GPUs. A collaborative challenge launched on Sept. 16 by StarkWare, Yukon Research and Eigen Labs produced 62 accepted improvements that enabled this reduction. While quantum-resistant protections like QSB are developing, StarkWare still favors a soft fork as the better « long-term answer » to broadly protect the Bitcoin network.
