Bitcoin’s mining difficulty rose 5.54% on October 29, climbing from 140.58 trillion to 148.36 trillion, after another 5.92% increase on October 16. The rise followed the return of 185 exahashes per second of computing power, lifting average hashrate by 21% over 102 days. Nodewitness and Look Into Bitcoin reported the strongest network power in seven months, but the recovery intensified competition for block rewards. Expected daily revenue per petahash per second fell to about $33, compared with $40 in September, and some older machines no longer cover their electricity costs. Together, the two October adjustments cut expected earnings by roughly 10.5% for unchanged computing power.
