German Sparkassen savings banks launched Bitcoin and cryptocurrency purchases on Monday, October 19, directly through their banking application. DekaBank handles trading and custody with a flat fee of 0.99 euros per order and a maximum transaction limit of 250,000 euros. The service targets approximately 50 million clients, with a goal to cover the majority of the network by the first half of 2027. Available cryptocurrencies are limited to Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Polygon, with no withdrawal to personal wallets and no staking options allowed. The German Savings Banks Federation (DSGV) nonetheless classifies these assets as highly speculative investments, while the competing Volksbanken network is advancing on the same terrain with its meinKrypto platform.
