Bitcoin Completes First Experimental Quantum-Safe Transaction, Starkware Says

Starkware announced that a quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction has been mined on the Bitcoin mainnet. This method, called Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB), was developed by researcher Avihu Levy and uses hash-based security without changing the network’s consensus rules. Approximately 7 million bitcoins could be vulnerable due to exposed public keys and address reuse, according to an estimate by Coinbase’s quantum advisory council. Starkware clarifies that this solution does not make Bitcoin fully quantum-safe and that a soft fork remains the long-term solution to protect the network against quantum computers.
