Hackers moved around $2.84 billion in crypto assets, according to Elliptic, while retaining control of roughly $3.33 billion that issuers could not freeze. Tether froze $1.567 billion in USDT, Circle froze $823 million in USDC, and Arbitrum moved $30.5 million in ARB and ETH into a frozen intermediary wallet. Before the first freeze, the attacker deposited $60 million in USDT into Aave V3 and borrowed $44.6 million in WETH, leaving the position overcollateralized according to Aave. Binance pledged to cover all user losses through its SAFU and company funds, although frozen assets are not necessarily recoverable.
