U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Thursday that a large bank will be sanctioned by the United States next Monday. The measure is meant to honor the memory of American citizens who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Trump’s administration also sanctioned the Dubai branches of Egypt’s second largest bank, which allegedly transferred $1.8 billion to Iran, as well as Turkey’s largest bank providing funds to Iranians. Last month, the United States launched « Operation Economic Outcast, » imposing sanctions on nearly 60 entities, vessels and individuals, and expanding secondary sanctions to businesses dealing with Iran in key sectors such as shipping and technology.
